From Brussels : Flanders Fields Remembrance tour
Join us on an unforgettable journey through history as we explore the poignant and historically rich Flanders Fields. Our expert guide will bring to life the events that led to the First World War and the devastating impact it had on the world.
On the way to the Flanders Fields area our guide will tell you which events led to the First World War and how the disaster developed. We stop at a very moving German Cemetery, from where we drive to a section of the WW1 trenches. We will visit the Monument of the Brooding Soldier, which commemorates the sacrifice of 2,000 Canadian soldiers during the first German gas attack. Close by is Hill 60 which had fallen into German hands but was mined by tunnelling companies of the Royal Engineers. Our guide will take us to the outstanding Flanders Fields museum (included in the price). We will hear the stories behind four years of trench war. You will then be taken to the battlefield at Passchendaele and visit Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world where British, Irish, Australian and Canadian soldiers rest. Then our coach will take us to Essex Farm. This was the field hospital where Canadian field surgeon Dr. John McCrae wrote the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" We will then arrive again in beautiful Ypres and eat a quick snack. At 8pm we will attend the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate (under restoration works until mid-2025), a daily tribute to all Commonwealth soldiers and officers that were missing after battle.

Somber trip to WW1 sites in Flanders Belgium.
Paul GWell organised tour that takes you to a lot f WW1 sites around Ypres in Flanders. The guide was very knowledgeable and set the scene very well. A light lunch with a drink was included . It’s a long day leaving at 9.00 am and not getting back until 10.30pm but we’ll worth it. Only downside was the Menin Gate was under repair so you can’t see the names on the walls. If you are interested in WW1 this is a tour worth doing.
History of the Great War
John_YI enjoyed the Flanders Fields Rememberance tour with Brussels City Tours/Keolis. Our guide Diederiek Naeyaert was amazing! He has encyclopediac knowledge of First World War history, and he personably and skillfully shared this history in interesting detail, as we toured the cemeteries, monuments, memorials and famous battlefields of the war. He made the tour informative, interesting, educational and meaningful. He's a top tour guide! I will be telling my friends and social media contacts that this tour, with Diederiek Naeyaert as guide is a must do activity when visiting Bruges! Well done, Viator for arranging this enjoyable tour!
